Ingredients
Agricultural Software Consultants, Inc. (ASC) provides ingredient and nutrient data from a variety of sources, including National Research Council (NRC) publications**. Users of MixitWin can enter data from any source or change the data that ASC provides. ASC data are not required and are only provided as a way of avoiding data entry.
USDA
The USDA National Database for Standard Reference, Release 28 (2015), with 8790 ingredients and 150 nutrients, including 57 fatty acids and 5 sterols. This data is also available at http://www.ars.usda.gov/ba/bhnrc/ndl
USDA human foods for pets. This database has 150 nutrients and 141 ingredients selected from the USDA National Nutrient Database (2015) with example dog and cat diets. Beef 1996 NRC - Data has 86 ingredients and 26 nutrients from Table 11.1 of the NRC publication "Nutrient Requirements of Beef Cattle," seventh revised edition, 1996.
Beef 1984 NRC - Data has 258 ingredients and 32 nutrients from the NRC "Nutrient Requirements of Beef Cattle," sixth revised edition, 1984, and "Nutrient Requirements of Dairy Cattle," fifth revised edition, 1978.
Spanish Beef 1984 NRC - Data has 258 ingredients and 32 nutrients from the NRC "Nutrient Requirements of Beef Cattle," sixth revised edition, 1984, and "Nutrient Requirements of Dairy Cattle," fifth revised edition, 1978, with ingredient and nutrient names in Spanish.
Dairy Cattle
Dairy 2001 NRC - Data from the NRC "Nutrient Requirements of Dairy Cattle," Seventh Revised Edition, 2001. Ingredients and nutrients were taken from Tables 15-1, 15-2a, 15-3 and 15-4. The %CP values in Table 15-2a were converted to % values, and the absorption coefficients in Table 15-4 were not used.
Dairy 1989 NRC (American) - Data from the NRC "Nutrient Requirements of Dairy Cattle," sixth revised edition, Update 1989. Ingredients and nutrients are taken from Tables 7-1 and 7-2. Nutrient values are in the American system.

Dairy 1978 NRC - Data from the NRC "Nutrient Requirements of Beef Cattle," sixth revised edition, 1984, and the NRC "Nutrient Requirements of Dairy Cattle," fifth revised edition, 1978.
Swine
Swine 1998 NRC - Data from Tables 11-1, 11-2, 11-3, 11-4, 11-6 and 11-8 of the NRC "Nutrient requirements of swine," tenth revised edition, 1998. Some digestibility numbers in Table 11-6 were used to estimate other numbers in Table 11-6 for which data was not available.
Swine 1988 NRC - This 1988 NRC Swine data was prepared by swine nutritionist Dr. Palmer Holden and taken from the 1988 NRC tables and a publication co-authored by Dr. Holden called "Life Cycle Swine Nutrition".
Poultry
Poultry 1994 NRC - Data has 72 feed ingredients, and 20 mineral sources, with 44 nutrients from Tables 9-1 and 9-10 of the NRC "Nutrient Requirements of Poultry," ninth revised edition, 1994, along with nine examples of chick starter, pullet developer, and layer rations.
Spanish Poultry 1994 NRC - Data has 72 feed ingredients, and 20 mineral sources, with 44 nutrients from Tables 9-1 and 9-10 of the NRC "Nutrient Requirements of Poultry," ninth revised edition, 1994, along with nine examples of chick starter, pullet developer, and layer rations, with ingredient and nutrient names in Spanish.
Broiler
Broiler data - Data has 41 ingredients, 29 nutrients and 18 breeder and broiler rations prepared by Dr. Simon M. Shane, Louisiana State University.

Gamebird
Game bird and water fowl - This game bird and water fowl data, compiled by Dr. Peter R. Ferket of North Carolina State University, contains 92 ingredients, 57 nutrients, and 26 goose, duck, pheasant, bobwhite quail, coturnix, and guinea fowl diets.
Turkey
Turkey data - Data contains more than 100 ingredients with 57 nutrients, and was compiled by Dr. Peter R. Ferket, Extension Poultry Nutritionist, of North Carolina State University. Data includes 40 diets for hot weather, cold weather and accelerated rations.
USDA Database
This database has 150 nutrients and 8790 ingredients selected from the USDA National Nutrient Database (2015). The ingredient table has standard serving sizes and their weights in grams. This data is also available at http://www.ars.usda.gov/ba/bhnrc/ndl
Goat
Goat 1981 NRC - Data has 271 ingredients and 27 nutrients from Tables 2, 3 and 4 of the NRC "Nutrient Requirements of Goats," 1981.
Dog & Cat
Dogs and Cats 2006 NRC - Data from Tables 13-1 and 13-5 thru 13-8 of the NRC "Nutrient Requirements of Dogs and Cats", 2006.
Dog and cat data - Data was compiled by Ray Sewell, Ph.D., of Sewell Consulting Services in Pelham, Alabama, and contains 132 of the ingredients most commonly used in the production of dry pet foods, 54 nutrients, and the following rations: Puppy diet (18% protein), Dog food chunks (21% protein), Dog maintenance diet (18% protein), High protein dog food (26% protein), Kitty food (35% protein) and Cat food (30% protein).
Cat data - Data compiled by consulting nutritionist Ray Sewell, Ph.D., of Sewell Consulting Services in Pelham, Alabama. Values used in setting the nutrient standards or specifications for these rations are extrapolations based on the 1986 NRC "Nutrient Requirements of Cats."
Sheep
Sheep 1975 NRC - Data from the NRC "Nutrient Requirements of Sheep," fifth revised edition, 1975, includes diets for ewe maintenance, gestation and lactation, ram replacements, and finishing and early weaned lambs.
Ruminant
Small Ruminants 2007 NRC - Data from Tables 15-11, 15-12 and 15-13 of the NRC "Nutrient Requirements of Small Ruminants", 2007.
Horse
Horse 2007 NRC - Data from Tables 16-6 1nd 16-7 of the NRC "Nutrient Requirements of Horses", Sixth Revised Edition, 2007.

Zoo data - Data has 303 ingredients, 41 nutrients and 124 rations for a variety of zoo animals, and was compiled by animal nutritionist R. S. Patton, Ph.D. of Galisteo, New Mexico for zoological gardens in San Antonio, Tucson (Reid Park), Denver, Tyler (Caldwell), and Philadelphia.
Mink & Fox
Mink and fox data - Data has 137 common mink and fox feed ingredients with six mink and two fox diets.
Trout & Salmon
Trout and salmon data - Nutrient and ingredient specifications for five trout diets and one salmon diet. The data has 67 ingredients and 45 nutrients taken from a variety of sources, including Tables 12 and 13 of the NRC "Nutrient Requirements of Coldwater Fishes," 1981, and was compiled by Dr. Gary Rumsey and Dr. Steven Hughes of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Tunison Laboratory, Cornell University.
Catfish
Catfish data - Data compiled by Drs. Meng H. Li and Edwin H. Robinson of the National Warmwater Aquaculture Center, Mississippi State University. Generally, the values used are from the 1993 NRC "Nutrient Requirements of Fish," National Academy of Sciences, Washington, D.C. or from research at the National Warmwater Aquaculture Center that does not yet appear in the NRC. Data for formulating commercial catfish diets are also used.
Tilapia
Tilapia data - Data compiled by Drs. Meng H. Li and Edwin H. Robinson of the National Warmwater Aquaculture Center, Mississippi State University. Generally, the values used are from the NRC, "Nutrient Requirements of Fish," 1993, National Academy of Sciences, Washington, D.C. or from research at the National Warmwater Aquaculture Center that does not yet appear in the NRC.
Shrimp
Shrimp data - Data includes specifications for two P. vannaemi diets and two P. monodon diets.
Finfish
Finfish 1993 NRC - Data has 44 feed ingredients and 45 nutrients from Tables 8-1 through 8-4 of the NRC "Nutrient Requirements of Fish," 1993.
Blending Examples
Fertilizer data - Data has 28 ingredients and 17 minerals and trace minerals for blending fertilizers. The ReadMe.txt file has a practical example of a least cost per acre fertilizer blend.
Ice cream data - Data has an example ice cream blend of Fat 16.00%, Serum solids 8.00%, Sugar solids 16.00%, Egg solids 0.35%, Stabilizer 0.25% Emulsifier 0.15% and Water 59.25%.
Sausage data - Data has an example all-meat frankfurter blend labeled Beef & Pork, Water Added, Pork Hearts with minimum Protein 9.0%, Binding (SAF) 9.0, Color (HEME), Total Beef & Pork 70.0%, Total Pork 30.0%, and maximum Collagen Protein 43.0%, Total Fat 30.0%, Moisture 61.0%.
